Seattle continues to grow….

For those of us who live in the Seattle and Bellevue area, the presence of cranes and construction sites continues to grow. Seattle is fast becoming ‘the’ place to live. With such beautiful surroundings, mild climate, booming local economy, strong real estate market, and a great support network from private and public organizations. South Lake Union has been completely redeveloped in the last 5 years, and continues to grow up and out.  There is a buzz in the city. We see new condos and office buildings that cater to city living, and the increasing quantity and quality of amenities targeted to this increasing crowd of 20’s and 30’s.

Here is an interesting article on Paul Allen and South Lake Union…..

I am intrigued to see how Seattle will continue to grow…….

    I know what you mean!

Over the past few years I’ve been away Feb-June, and Sept-mid Dec, and it astonishes me to see the amount of growth that happens while I’m away. Growing up in the area, I always remembered gradual growth, but now… New buildings seem to pop up weekly.
Kirkland is also growing by leaps and bounds, and is very “in” with the 20’s-30’s crowd.

It seems there is a building site everywhere you look, whether that be a high rise built on a parking lot downtown, or a 3000 square foot house built on plot where a 900 sq ft cottage once stood. I think it’s exciting to walk downtown and see these beautiful buildings, but that thought changes somewhat when you jump into your car. You quickly realize what accompanies these buildings….. people and traffic.

The process of gentrification is exciting, but at what cost? And is that cost manageable?

I think it is right now, but for how much longer….

“a 3000 square foot house built on plot where a 900 sq ft cottage once stood” Exactly! I grew up in the Rose Hill area of Kirkland (where my friends and I were able to ride horses around the area) and we had a bit of property, when we moved, 27 houses were put in its place, and the traffic on 124 AVE NE is a nightmare during rush-hour!
